Meet the team below to learn more about their backgrounds and what sets them apart.

Marsha Schuld is a multi-media artist who works out of her studio in rural Saskatchewan. She is self-taught as well as having trained at the University of Saskatchewan, Red Deer College and the Royal School of Needlework.

The media in which she works include but aren’t limited to: painting, drawing, stained glass, sculpture, printmaking and intricate hand embroidery. Marsha has taught art for over 30 years, inviting everyone to share the joy of creativity. She teaches for Art Gallery of Swift Current, in local schools, and out of her studio. She is a firm believer that art is for everyone.

I grew up on an acreage north of Swift Current which led me to appreciate the beauty of this landscape we live in. I attended the University of Lethbridge and obtained my combined Fine Arts and Education degrees in the fall of 2020. My areas of knowledge are painting, sculpting, and installation. My current focus in my artwork is landscape and time in rural Saskatchewan. I am excited to be working with the Swift Current Art Gallery, sharing my passion for art as an instructor.

I hold a BFA in Visual Arts with a major in oil painting from the University of Regina. I’ve been teaching art classes and workshops for the last 5 years, from kid’s programs to Art Camps, and even workshops with the residents at the Meadows. Although my degree is focused on painting, I’ve been focusing on illustration, graphic novel and webcomic work lately in my artistic practice.

I love to create stories with my artwork, and I even run a webcomic with my friend titled “Stars in Roses”. Everyone has a unique story to tell, and I believe that artwork is a wonderful way to share your stories with the world.

Theo Houghtaling is an interdisciplinary artist based in Swift Current. He studied interdisciplinary art and art history for 6 years at NSCAD University in Halifax and has exhibited his artwork locally, nationally, and internationally. Between semesters Theo worked at the Art Gallery of Swift Current, where he learned aspects of gallery operations and art education practices.

Moving back to Swift Current to build his practice, he has loved working with people in the community, doing workshops, and collaborating. He is excited about the new workshops planned for AGSC.

A graduate of the University of Regina’s Arts Education program, I taught art to middle years students for two years before starting my own business of creating things. New Leaf Handmade Goods has been in business since March 2010.

While I love to create notebooks and my own art, I am very much a teacher too! I am passionate about setting up beautiful and accessible art spaces for people, giving them a chance to connect with others and their own basic creativity. I teach local classes periodically and facilitate Art Nights out of my local church.

I love to create practical and beautiful notebooks, and I also enjoy creating artwork using fabric, paper and mixed media. The things I make reflect the unexpected and often subtle beauty of the prairies surrounding my home. I currently live on a farm near Herbert amidst wild rolling hills and find inspiration for my works in this windy prairie land. I am continually amazed at the inconspicuous beauty that hides in the pastures and along the gravel roads.
