You’ll begin the weekend Friday evening with a gentle landing at the resort, where you’ll check in and receive a luxurious welcome package featuring a handmade ceramic cup from Jay and some of Brandy’s handcrafted skincare to use at your leisure. A relaxed group dinner will be followed by free time to mingle and settle in, with an evening yoga opportunity available to those interested.
Ease into Saturday morning with a meditation session, followed by breakfast and a pleasant hike in the hills to wild-forage plant materials for use in your creative workshops. After lunch, join Brandy in making your own hydrosol from the plants you’ve gathered, followed by some time to relax and enjoy the beach, a nap, or whatever you feel moved toward. After a nourishing dinner, Jay will guide the pit-firing preparations, showing you how to wrap plant and mineral material around your pot to achieve distinctive surface decoration. The workshop will be followed by an optional restorative yoga class. When the sun sets, we’ll light the bonfire and enjoy good beverages and good company as the flames do their work transforming our ceramic pots.
Rise Sunday morning with a meditation session, including a closing circle to mark the weekend experience. As we enjoy a casual brunch, we’ll unpack the pit-fire to reveal and admire your ceramic treasures before we say farewell.
Delicious meals and snacks will be catered by local favourites, Nightjar Diner Co and Made Café, with vegetarian and gluten-free options. Please note your dietary restrictions or preferences at registration; we’ll do our best to accommodate though we can’t guarantee our ability to meet all requirements. Brandy and Jay’s ongoing collaboration is driven by their mutual desire to provide meaningful products and experiences rooted in connection to land, with a focus on sustainability and stewardship. For this event, they’ll be joined by friend Fran Gilboy, who will lead meditation and mindful movement to enhance the weekend experience.
Brandy Morris is a Cree/Ukrainian herbalist, forager, and gardener form the Qu’Appelle Valley in Saskatchewan, born and raised on Treaty Four land. Brandy has spent her life connecting with plant medicine, making herbal tea blends and remedy-based skincare. She is the force behind the luxurious products of Moving Feather Apothecary.
Jay Kimball is an artist based on Treaty 4 Territory in Swift Current. He reflects on the importance of land and community in the handmade as he creates work that ranges between functional objects, sculptural earthworks, and social practice. In recent years, he has embarked on a fresh artistic trajectory, creating large, site-responsive installations using raw ceramic materials directly on the land.
Fran Gilboy has been exploring the Dharma since she was 19 and sharing it with others for over a decade. She loves how practice shows up in all of life—in stillness, motion, messiness, and joy. A lifelong dancer and nature lover, Fran has been teaching embodied practices for over 20 years. She delights in mindful movement, long walks under open skies, and the kind of laughter that sneaks up during silent retreats. Fran leads sanghas both locally and online, bringing a warm, grounded presence to everything she teaches.
Hand thrown by Jay, these ceramic vessels are thoughtful and full of purpose. Each is a storage container for your powdered clay mask while the lid, when overturned, becomes an elegant and perfectly sized bowl for preparing your skin treatment. We’ll work together to pit-fire the vessels; an ancient process used around the world, whereby raw ceramic objects are placed into the base of a bonfire. As the flames and heat rise, layers of wood dust, salts, plants, and minerals incinerate to create atmospheric surface markings, resulting in a unique heirloom-quality object for you to take home and enjoy for years to come.
Brandy will share her knowledge as we gather sage and other plant material during a guided botanical walk. Once back at the resort, she’ll demonstrate how to process the plants in a still to create hydrosol infused with the offerings of the land. Throughout, participants are invited to share their own knowledge and memories of plants. This learning experience will engage and delight all the senses, as participants are invited to explore the landscape as a source of healing and nourishment.
